Scholarship, Grant & Award Opportunities

 

The South Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics provides:

  • Scholarships to preservice teachers who intend to specialize in teaching mathematics;
  • Scholarships and grants to math educators
  • Awards to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to furthering the advancement of mathematics in South Carolina.

 


Scholarships


Scholarships

 

The SCCTM Preservice Scholarship Program provides financial assistance of $1,500 to deserving preservice teachers who express their intention to specialize in the teaching of mathematics. Up to three scholarships will be awarded each year depending upon the availability of funds.  


Applications are due on or before September 15.

 

Requirements and the Scholarship Application are found in the Preservice Scholarship document.

  

The SCCTM Educator's Scholarship, established in memory of deceased SCCTM members, provides financial assistance of $1,500 to a teacher pursuing an advanced degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or elementary education with an emphasis in mathematics. One scholarship will be awarded each year depending upon the availability of funds.  

Applications are due on or before September 15.

Teacher Grants


Teacher Grants


The SCCTM Executive Board determines the total amount of grant funds available each year to support SCCTM members desiring to implement projects in mathematics-related areas. Individual grant awards may not exceed $1,500. Grant applications may be made for most mathematics-related purposes.


Funds are set aside each year for Teacher Grants with no individual grant to exceed $1,500. 

Applications must be submitted by April 15.


Grant criteria, procedure and the Grant Application are found in the Grant Application Google Form.

Announcement of the grant recipients will be made on June 15.


Awards


Awards


The SCCTM has two awards to recognize the efforts of individuals who have made significant contributions to the mathematics education in South Carolina - the Outstanding Contributions to Mathematics Education Award and the Richard W. Riley Award. Both awards celebrate the individual's time, energy, expertise, and commitment towards the improvement of mathematics education in our state. Their efforts have made positive differences for mathematics educators as well as impacted students' learning of mathematics across South Carolina. These awards recognize contributions in curriculum, instruction and/or assessment of mathematics.


Do you know someone that you feel deserves to be honored in this way? Nominate him/her for one of these awards!

Nominations should be received by July 15.


The SCCTM Outstanding Contribution to Mathematics Award nominations may be submitted annually to SCCTM to honor, if selected, one or more mathematics educators. Recipients may be recognized for their contributions in one or more of the following areas.


·         Contribution to SCCTM and other professional organizations;

·         Classroom teaching, instruction, and/or assessment;

·         Curriculum design, presentations, an program development;

·         Authorship and/or research.

The SCCTM Richard W. Riley Award was established to pay tribute to those whose work has advanced mathematics education in South Carolina even though they are not mathematics educators.
